He wakes beneath the Imperial Academy of Valdris with no name, no memories, and no way out. Where every mage should possess a Resonance Core, his soul contains a prison of thirteen cells. Three cells already hold Unbound Spells: living magic that thinks, wants, and acts without a caster. He can study their rules, bargain for their power, and contain new spells once he understands them—but every inmate demands a price. One consumes memories. Another heals by imposing its own idea of correction. A third chooses whom it believes deserves judgment. To survive the academy's thirty-day elimination period, he fabricates an identity as a low-tier sealing student. He must pass practical evaluations without standard magic while hiding abilities that the Academy's Sealing Division is legally required to destroy. Each new spell makes him stronger and the prison less stable. Worst of all, the sealed thirteenth cell knows his true name. It insists that he is not the warden of this prison, but its most important prisoner.
