His official sync rate is zero, leaving him to dismantle wreckage aboard a frontier salvage ship. Buried inside an alien debris field, he finds a black mech that responds to him alone. It does not behave like a standard war-frame. It accepts technologies from civilizations whose systems should be mutually incompatible, turning Tavian's patience as a mechanic into the only language it seems willing to answer. Every recovered module offers a new inheritance from the dead, but installation is a choice with permanent costs. Relics can conflict. Deeper connection can change both pilot and machine.
